Deception Ch16The next day, I started school. I quickly fell into a routine. Get up, go to school. Come home, finish homework. Family discussion over dinner, watch TV, go to sleep. Rinse, repeat.
At the end of the third day of this, I started to open up a little.
As one would expect, my parents were… surprised about the whole 'wings' thing. After we finally told them, I could feel Peter's eyes following me everywhere. It was like I was untrustworthy or something. But I didn't ask questions.
I carried Tide to her room and put her to bed. "Esis?" She asked, "Is something wrong?"
I smiled in response. I'm all right.

sage, gathering up anything with the taste
of what mystery inhabits the air—brimming over
the glass lips, a curving kind of joy,
the whole earth, a bowl of it.
at night, my uncle drinks beer
and i drink wine. he watches
